Acer launches 9 laptop with Intel chips and 8GB RAM, competing with MacBook Neo

Acer is gearing up for the upcoming Computex event with the introduction of several new laptops aimed at challenging prominent competitors in the market. Notably, the highly anticipated Swift Air 14 is set to make waves as a direct contender to Apple’s MacBook Neo. Priced at an approachable 9, the Swift Air boasts a 14-inch display and will leverage Intel’s Core Series 3 “Wildcat Lake” processors, which include Core i5 and i7 models featuring six cores.

Available in a variety of colors including green, pink, purple, and a muted blue, the Swift Air features an all-aluminum chassis that appeals to consumers’ aesthetic preferences. While many have criticized the MacBook Neo for its limited RAM offering of 8GB, the Swift Air also initiates with this capacity but allows for configurations of up to 16GB, reflecting a trend toward greater flexibility for users who may require more memory.

In terms of dimensions, the Swift Air weighs approximately 2.76 pounds (1.25 kg), comparable to the MacBook Neo, but does measure slightly thicker at 12.9 mm. Its display runs at a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and reaches up to 350 nits brightness. However, it offers a notable edge with a refresh rate of 120Hz and claims to cover the complete sRGB color spectrum. Enhanced connectivity options provide additional convenience, featuring two Thunderbolt 4 ports alongside a traditional USB-A 3.2 port, which exceeds the limited connections found on the MacBook.

The performance implications of the new Intel Wildcat Lake chip remain largely untested in real-world scenarios. Early benchmarks indicate that it may compete effectively with Apple’s A18 Pro. Ensuring battery life compatibility will be crucial for the laptop, especially given the Swift Air’s sizeable 70Wh battery, significantly larger than its competitors. However, 8GB of initial RAM could be a limiting factor, particularly for users of Windows 11, as opposed to the macOS ecosystem.

Alongside the Swift Air, Acer is unveiling other intriguing models including the Aspire 18 AI and Nitro 16. The Aspire 18 features an impressive 18-inch display and supports formidable processing options alongside generous RAM and storage capabilities. Conversely, the Nitro 16 targets gamers with its AMD Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor, branded as one of the fastest mobile gaming chips available.

These announcements reinforce Acer’s strategy to expand its presence and appeal in the competitive laptop market, drawing attention at Computex and beyond.
