Foggy morning and cool temperatures across SA, with isolated showers expected in KZN
Morning fog and a mix of cool to cold conditions are anticipated across various regions of the country, as reported by a media source. The South African Weather Service has noted the development of isolated showers particularly affecting the KwaZulu-Natal area.
The forecast indicates that very cold weather is likely in the north-eastern highlands of the Eastern Cape. Residents can expect freezing temperatures and possible frost in certain areas, especially during the early morning hours.
In Gauteng, conditions are expected to be fine and cool to cold, with the southern part of the province experiencing some cloud cover. Specific temperatures forecasted for key cities include Pretoria, where highs will reach 16°C from a morning low of 6°C; in Johannesburg, temperatures are expected to range from 3°C to 14°C; and in Vereeniging, a slightly tight range of 4°C to 13°C.
Moving onto Mpumalanga, morning fog is predicted in the Lowveld, with frost expected in certain spots over the Highveld region. However, a predominantly fine day is anticipated for the province overall, with temperatures forecasted to reach a high of 23°C in Mbombela, while Ermelo may only see a peak of 13°C.
In contrast, the Limpopo region is expected to deal with morning fog in its western areas, while other locales are predicted to remain fine and cool. Notable temperatures include lows of 7°C in Polokwane and a peak of 27°C in Phalaborwa.
The North West province will experience partly cloudy skies, with cool to cold temperatures, particularly in Mahikeng, where it could drop to 2°C at night.
Morning fog patches are forecasted to affect parts of the Free State, particularly in the central and western areas as well as near the Lesotho border. The cool and partly cloudy conditions in this area could see the thermometer drop to as low as 1°C in Bethlehem.
In the Northern Cape, conditions will be relatively fine in the north-west, while elsewhere will remain cool to cold. Coastal winds are expected to be light to moderate, primarily blowing from the south to south-east.
In the Western Cape, morning fog patches are possible along the southern coast, with the rest of the region set to experience varied conditions ranging from fine to partly cloudy. The range of temperatures will vary from lows of 5°C in Beaufort West to highs of 20°C in Vredendal.
The Eastern Cape is predicted to experience significant variations with morning frost in the interior. Similar to other regions, temperatures will vary throughout the day but could range from 4°C in Graaff-Reinet to highs of 18°C in KuGompo.
Lastly, KwaZulu-Natal will start with morning fog but is likely to see improved conditions by the afternoon with partly cloudy skies. However, residents should watch for the potential for isolated showers along the coast and adjacent areas, with temperatures ranging from lows of 4°C in Ladysmith to highs of 22°C in Durban.
This meteorological outlook serves as a reminder for individuals to prepare for intermittent weather changes amid the approaching seasonal shifts.
