Dragon’s Dogma 2 cancels deluxe edition and removes controversial time-saving microtransactions

Capcom has announced the discontinuation of the Deluxe Edition of Dragon’s Dogma 2, effective June 24, following a strategic decision that will also see the removal of several controversial microtransactions aimed at providing players with a faster progression experience within the game. The Japanese video game developer issued a statement on its social media platforms, expressing gratitude to players for their sustained support while citing the need to focus on the development of additional content and various adjustments for an upcoming title update.

As of June 25, a range of items will no longer be available for purchase across all platforms, although players who have already acquired them will still retain access. The items earmarked for discontinuation include the Deluxe Edition of the game, several in-game packs, and multiple consumables that facilitate gameplay enhancements. Notable among these are the Harpysnare Smoke Beacons, various Rift Crystals, and character customization options.

Capcom is committed to enhancing the overall gaming experience, and this decision aligns with the upcoming release of Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen, scheduled for October 9. To support this new title, Capcom is implementing significant updates aimed at addressing performance issues that have plagued the game, particularly regarding enemy scaling in New Game Plus modes. Furthermore, the digital base version of the game will see a permanent price reduction, providing an incentive for new players to engage with the franchise.

In conjunction with this announcement, Capcom revealed plans for a port of Dragon’s Dogma 2 for the Nintendo Switch 2 during a recent media event, which generated considerable excitement among fans. This version, known as the Dark Arisen edition, will also feature new expansion content that will be accessible on other platforms.

Capcom’s proactive approach, including a comprehensive roadmap for game improvement, ensures that players can expect a more polished experience with the forthcoming installment. This strategic pivot not only demonstrates responsiveness to player feedback but also signifies Capcom’s dedication to enhancing the Dragon’s Dogma universe as it prepares for the series’ next chapter.
