Danganronpa 2×2 announces new scenario titled ‘Slayhem’ and delays release to early 2027
Spike Chunsoft, a leading player in the video game industry, announced a notable delay for its anticipated title, Danganronpa 2×2, during a recent panel at a prominent anime convention. Originally set to release in 2026, the game will now launch in early 2027. This installment revisits the critically acclaimed Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair, introducing a new alternate scenario dubbed “Slayhem” mode that is projected to offer players approximately 35 hours of gameplay—five hours longer than the original with 20% more content.
This update arrives as the company released footage showcasing significant enhancements, including upgraded backgrounds and character sprites, aimed at improving the overall user experience. Danganronpa 2×2 is set to be available on a wide array of platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam.
The game’s alternate narrative introduces a fresh cast of victims and culprits, diverging from the original storyline while connecting to a pivotal incident in the game’s universe. Spike Chunsoft emphasized that the new content’s size is comparable to the original title, which benefits from improved visuals and production quality as part of this re-release.
In addition to the game, Danganronpa 2×2 will be packaged with several exclusive items for collectors. The Psycho Tropical Vacation Package includes a reversible Psycho Tropical Hat, a 3-inch Kidrobot figure of Monokuma and Monomi, a soundtrack, and a stylish clamshell-style outer box, catering to fans eager for unique memorabilia.
In light of the recent announcements, the company previously disclosed the casting changes for the character Monomi, with Kinuta Ōshiro stepping in to voice the character following the passing of Takako Sasuga. Moreover, Wasabi Mizuta will now voice Monokuma, replacing the late TARAKO.
Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair first launched in Japan in July 2012 for PlayStation Portable and has since expanded across various platforms globally. The franchise has flourished beyond games, encompassing manga series, multiple anime adaptations, and a variety of merchandise, creating a robust multimedia presence.
With its intricate plots, engaging gameplay, and vibrant characters, the Danganronpa series continues to capture the interest of players worldwide, appealing to a diverse audience eager for immersive storytelling experiences.
