Bentley Supersports: A Streamlined Masterpiece for Driving Enthusiasts
Bentley Motors has unveiled its latest engineering marvel, the Supersports, which represents a significant departure from the brand’s previous offerings, being the lightest Bentley since 1941. This bespoke vehicle boasts a refined variant of Bentley’s acclaimed 4.0-liter V8 engine, equipped with a fortified engine block, innovative cylinder heads, and larger turbochargers. Generating 657 horsepower (490 kW) and 590 lb-ft (800 Nm) of torque, the Supersports positions itself not as the most powerful Bentley but potentially as the most engaging for drivers.
The handling capabilities of the Supersports are significantly enhanced through its advanced technological features. Both the front and rear axles are outfitted with 48-volt active anti-roll bars capable of responding within a third of a second, delivering reaction torque up to 960 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) to maintain stability and flatness during cornering. The vehicle also benefits from recalibrated twin-valve dampers and air suspension, fine-tuned for three distinct driving modes: Touring, Bentley, and Sport. When fitted with the optional Pirelli Trofeo RS tires, the Supersports can master corners at an impressive lateral acceleration of 1.3 Gs.
Aesthetically, the Supersports is designed to impress—an aerodynamic marvel that captures attention as it navigates the legendary turns of the Laguna Seca racetrack. The car’s carbon-fiber roof lowers its center of gravity, while a host of aerodynamic elements—such as a front splitter, winglets, and a substantial rear spoiler with an integrated diffuser—enhance its downforce. Bentley claims that the Supersports generates at least 661 lbs (300 kg) more downforce than the Continental GT Speed, with an aero balance that shifts to the rear as speed increases.
From the driver’s seat, the Supersports conveys a sense of purpose and performance. Comfort does not take a backseat to functionality; the carbon-fiber-accented cockpit features well-bolstered sports seats that provide ample electric adjustment, ensuring that the driver remains secure through the most demanding maneuvers. Despite a curb weight listed as “less than 4,407 lbs (1,999 kg),” making it the lightest Bentley in 85 years, the vehicle demonstrates remarkable resilience against road imperfections, allowing for a smooth driving experience over uneven surfaces.
