Woman killed and several injured in pedestrian incident outside Trader Joe’s in LA’s Fairfax District

In a tragic incident that unfolded in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, multiple pedestrians were struck by a car in a shopping center parking lot, resulting in one fatality and several injuries. The collision occurred shortly before 1:30 PM at the Gilmore Station shopping center, located near the intersection of Third Street and Fairfax Avenue.

According to a media source, the driver, a 91-year-old woman, lost control of her Tesla, which subsequently crashed into a security stand situated at the entrance of the parking lot. The area is frequented by customers of Trader Joe’s, Mendocino Farms, and Sidecar Doughnuts. Emergency responders arrived swiftly, but unfortunately, a female victim in her 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other individuals suffered varying degrees of injuries, with a 19-year-old male reported to have sustained serious injuries, while two women, aged 30 and 57, were treated for minor injuries.

The elderly driver was also hospitalized but was reported to be in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries. Authorities indicated that there were no immediate arrests related to the incident. Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with one resident noting that the driver appeared to be in shock following the collision. They recounted her claim that she was attempting to apply the brakes as the vehicle accelerated uncontrollably.

Aerial footage from local news coverage revealed firefighters and paramedics attending to the injured, while the Tesla was shown with its airbags deployed. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass expressed her condolences regarding the incident, stating, “I am deeply saddened by the incident outside of the Trader Joe’s near the corner of Fairfax and Third, and my heart goes out to everyone impacted.” She highlighted the rapid response of first responders and the deployment of Crisis Response Team members at the scene.
