British-Nigerian influencer dies following penile filler procedure in Thailand
In a tragic incident that underscores the potential dangers associated with cosmetic procedures, a Nigerian associate of renowned Afrobeats artist Davido has died after experiencing severe medical complications in Bangkok, Thailand. The individual, identified as Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, also known as Ego, reportedly succumbed to a pulmonary embolism following a cosmetic penile enlargement surgery.
According to a media source, the procedure, which involved the injection of 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine, took place in early March. Shortly thereafter, Ubiribo began to experience chest pains and collapsed while receiving a massage from his wife, Danielle Simba Allen. Emergency medical services were summoned, and Ubiribo was quickly transported to Sukhumvit Hospital.
Upon arrival, he was diagnosed with a serious condition characterized by a blockage of the pulmonary arteries caused by blood clots, known as a pulmonary embolism. Medical personnel recommended a CT scan to further evaluate his condition. However, Ubiribo lost consciousness prior to its execution. Despite intensive efforts to resuscitate him for about an hour and a half, he was pronounced dead in the early hours of March 6.
A subsequent postmortem examination conducted in the UK revealed the presence of cellular material in Ubiribo’s lungs that corresponded with the hyaluronic acid utilized in the procedure. This evidence corroborated the medical conclusion that the cosmetic intervention had directly led to the fatal pulmonary embolism. Following these findings, Coroner Jean Harkin officially recorded the cause of death as a pulmonary embolism resulting from the cosmetic injection, emphasizing that Ubiribo had died as a result of a procedure performed abroad.
Ubiribo was a notable figure in Nigeria’s music scene and had amassed around 185,000 followers on Instagram. He was laid to rest in London in May, attended by several prominent figures, including Davido.
This incident has rekindled discussion around the inherent risks linked to cosmetic procedures, particularly penile filler treatments. Experts, including Professor Vaibhav Modgil, an NHS andrology specialist, have previously cautioned that such medical interventions can lead to significant and, at times, catastrophic consequences.
As the public continues to grapple with the implications of cosmetic surgery, this tragedy serves as a critical reminder of the need for thorough research and consideration before making such life-altering decisions.
