Now we wait for him to wake up from anesthesia.” Bolsonaro has been serving a 27-year prison term since November after being convicted for attempting to prevent current President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva from taking office. Following his surgery, doctors estimated that his hospital stay would last between five to seven days.
The surgical procedure was deemed necessary to alleviate pain caused by Bolsonaro’s double hernia, a condition he has been dealing with for some time. Having faced several health issues since being stabbed in the abdomen during a campaign rally in 2018, Bolsonaro has also recently been diagnosed with skin cancer.
