Ground delay issued at LAX due to staffing issues, FAA says

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — A ground delay at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) caused major issues for flights on Saturday evening. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), it was issued due to staffing issues.

The ground delay first began at 6:57 p.m. It appeared it expired just before midnight, as the delay was no longer listed on the FAA’s website.

While it was in place, the FAA reported delays averaging 98 minutes for flights heading to LAX. All contiguous U.S. departures were included.

Eyewitness News reached out to LAX for more information about exactly what triggered the delay, but LAX pointed toward the FAA for answers, only confirming that the delay had been issued.
