According to Lebanon’s Ministry of Public Health, a strike in the Jnah neighborhood of Beirut wounded 39 people, occurring alarmingly close to Rafik Hariri University Hospital, the nation’s largest public medical facility. This wave of violence began on March 2 when the Lebanese group Hezbollah launched rockets into Israel, responding to the United States-Israeli military campaign against Iranian influence in the region. On the same day, Hezbollah announced that it had targeted an Israeli warship located approximately 126 kilometers (78 miles) off the Lebanese coast. The Israeli military has not issued a response to this claim, and the authenticity of Hezbollah’s assertion has not been independently verified.
Israeli military officials stated that their operations included strikes aimed at Hezbollah infrastructure in Beirut’s southern suburbs, though they did not provide specific details to substantiate these claims. Furthermore, Israel’s intention to strike the Masnaa border crossing—a crucial trade route for both Lebanon and Syria—has raised concerns regarding its civilian utility.
