“It’s an honor to consistently rank as a top place to live in America,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said in a news release.

INDIANAPOLIS — Two Hamilton County cities have once again been named among the best in the nation to live.

U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday, May 19 released its annual list of the best places to live in the country. To make it to the top of the list, they say a place “had to have good value, be a desirable place to live, have a strong job market and a high quality of life.”

Carmel, Indiana, came in first in the outlet’s “250 Best Places to Live in the U.S. in 2026-27” list, with Fishers ranking directly behind at No. 2.

“Earning the number one ranking from U.S. News & World Report is an incredible honor that reflects the collective dedication of our residents, business leaders and City team,” Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam said in a news release. “Our focus has always been on cultivating a safe, innovation-minded and vibrant community built for big dreams. This recognition validates our intentional efforts to deliver world-class public services, foster a robust economic climate and maintain an unmatched quality of life. Carmel truly is the best place in America to call home.”

“It’s an honor to consistently rank as a top place to live in America,” Fishers Mayor Scott Fadness said in a news release. “Being named as #2 best place to live is a testament to our focus on creating a community that keeps looking forward while building world-class quality of life amenities that exceed our residents’ expectations.”

The media company said this year’s list evaluated more than 850 of the country’s top cities.

  • Greenwood: No. 26
  • Columbus: No. 69
