Charlie Hunnam reunites ‘Sons of Anarchy’ cast for FX meta-series ‘Legends’

Emmy Award nominee Charlie Hunnam, widely recognized for his roles in “Monster: The Ed Gein Story” and “Sons of Anarchy,” is set to revive a beloved ensemble with the announcement of a new limited series entitled “Legends.” This project, which has garnered excitement among fans and industry insiders alike, has been ordered by FX and will also see Hunnam serving as the series’ creator, developer, and executive producer.

Joining Hunnam in this venture is Jonathan Groff, known for “Happy Endings” and “This Fool,” who will take the reins as showrunner. The series will feature a cast of notable original “Sons of Anarchy” actors, including Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Maggie Siff, Mark Boone Junior, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, and Theo Rossi. The complete cast list is anticipated to be announced in the near future.

“Legends” will explore a unique storyline in which the original cast of “Sons of Anarchy” reunites at a fan convention after more than ten years apart. In a captivating twist, the narrative blurs the lines between reality and fiction as the characters confront a real-world threat, posing challenges that surpass those faced during their on-screen exploits.

“Sons of Anarchy,” created by Kurt Sutter, became a cultural phenomenon during its seven-season run, concluding in 2014. The series was a significant ratings success for FX, leading to the development of a spin-off series, “Mayans M.C.” in 2018. Despite Sutter’s previous plans for additional series set in the same universe—including prequels and sequels—he is not directly involved in “Legends.” However, he has lent his support to Hunnam’s new project.

Over the years, many original cast members have maintained close relationships and frequently reconnect at fan conventions. The concept for “Legends” has been in development for at least three years, with Hunnam spearheading the initiative before Groff joined the project.

The series follows Hunnam’s recent acclaim for his performance in “Monster: The Ed Gein Story,” which has earned him his first Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie. As esteemed industry veterans, the cast of “Legends” continues to pursue successful careers across film and television.

FX Entertainment President Nick Grad expressed enthusiasm for Hunnam’s vision, stating that the project is an exciting blend of nostalgia and innovative storytelling that will resonate with fans of the original series. “Legends” will be produced by FX Productions and 20th Television, and it will be available for viewing on both FX and Hulu.
