Fact-Checking Organization Receives Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism

FactCheck.org has been recognized with the prestigious 2025 Sigma Delta Chi award for excellence in fact-checking by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ). This accolade marks a significant achievement, being the organization’s fourth honor in the fact-checking category and its fifth overall award from SPJ.

The award-winning entry featured a series of investigative pieces authored by Senior Writer D’Angelo Gore and Deputy Director Robert Farley. These articles scrutinized various tariff claims made by then-President Donald Trump, addressing the implications of these policies on both an international scale and for American consumers.

Specifically, the team analyzed misleading calculations related to “reciprocal tariffs” that the former president sought to impose worldwide. They also highlighted misconceptions surrounding justified increases on imports from Europe and debunked the recurring notion that tariffs would predominantly be borne by foreign entities, asserting the impact on American consumers instead.

Founded in 1932, the Society of Professional Journalists, initially known as Sigma Delta Chi, has a long-standing history of honoring outstanding journalism across various disciplines.
