A “large-scale” Israeli raid in the Qalandiya refugee camp in the occupied West Bank has resulted in injuries to at least 51 Palestinians, according to reports from the Jerusalem Governorate. The raid, which took place on August 7, was marked by the demolition of commercial shops near the Qalandiya checkpoint, imposition of a curfew in the neighboring town of Kafr Aqab, and the sealing off of roads connecting the area to Jerusalem.

The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that among the injured, 35 individuals were hospitalized due to severe beatings, while six others were treated on-site. One person suffered a gunshot wound from a rubber-coated steel bullet, and another six experienced tear gas inhalation. PRCS crews faced significant challenges in reaching the wounded as Israeli forces allegedly blocked their access throughout the night.

Additionally, dozens of Palestinians, including women and children, were detained for questioning inside homes that had been converted into makeshift holding sites, as reported by local Palestinian media. The tensions further escalated with another raid in the city of Jenin, where one Palestinian was shot and another was assaulted by Israeli soldiers, according to the PRCS.

The frequency of Israeli military actions and settler violence in the occupied West Bank has intensified over the past months. Rights organizations have documented more than 11,000 military and settler attacks in the first half of this year, resulting in over 2,300 Palestinians being displaced from their homes due to violence and related restrictions. A United Nations-appointed commission of inquiry indicated in June that Israeli authorities have consistently failed to prevent settler violence and have not held perpetrators accountable.

The UN report also suggested that the Israeli state has, at times, actively facilitated such violence by providing protection and resources to settlers.
