Man Arrested for Pulling Knife During Dispute on Brooklyn Set of Miami Vice 85
A significant incident occurred on the Brooklyn set of “Miami Vice ’85,” a reimagining of the classic 1980s crime drama, which has garnered considerable attention. On Friday night, authorities arrested a 23-year-old man, identified as Alex Perez, after he allegedly brandished a knife during a confrontation with a crew member. The New York City Police Department reported that Perez was taken into custody without incident shortly after 11 p.m. near Avenue N and McDonald Avenue, close to Washington Cemetery.
According to police reports, a 42-year-old crew member claimed that a verbal dispute escalated when Perez displayed a knife. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of this altercation. Following the incident, the police recovered the weapon and charged Perez with menacing and criminal possession of a weapon.
“Miami Vice ’85,” which stars acclaimed actors Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler, continues to attract media scrutiny. The incident involved Perez, who, according to a media source, has a troubling background with prior arrests related to gang activities, firearm assaults, and burglary. Footage obtained and reported by a media source showed him being escorted away by a production staff member before pulling out a large knife from his sweatshirt.
The film, produced by Universal Pictures, aims to capture the essence of the original series that ran on NBC, featuring iconic characters Sonny Crockett and Ricardo Tubbs, originally portrayed by Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, respectively. Directed by notable filmmaker Joseph Kosinski, known for his work on “Top Gun: Maverick,” the film is expected to showcase not only Jordan and Butler but also a talented supporting cast that includes Alden Ehrenreich, Whitney Peak, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Andrew Schulz, and Walton Goggins.
As filming progresses in locations such as New Jersey and New York City, anticipation is building for the film’s release, scheduled for May 19, 2028. The incident on set raises questions about safety measures and the challenges that production crews might face during significant film projects.
