Mexican authorities have successfully rescued eight individuals who had been forcibly recruited by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), one of the most powerful and violent drug trafficking organizations in the nation. The victims were discovered at a hidden clinic situated on a farm in Tecalitlan, located approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Guadalajara, as reported by ZezapTV.
Images released by state prosecutors depict disturbing scenes of dimly lit rooms furnished only with mattresses and walls marked by stains. One notable photo featured a cap emblazoned with the likeness of Jesus Malverde, a folk hero revered by some as the unofficial patron saint of drug traffickers. Jalisco state prosecutor Salvador Gonzalez described the property as a shelter for individuals who had been recruited by organized crime and who required recovery due to injuries sustained from their illicit activities.
Gonzalez emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating that the victims had been deprived of their freedom. Disturbingly, two of the rescued individuals were found using crutches. Law enforcement officials also seized illegal narcotics, weapons, and ammunition from the site. Six suspected guards, aged between 21 and 48, were apprehended during the operation.
The discovery of the clinic came about during an investigation into the disappearance of a 20-year-old man from Tlaquepaque, who had gone missing in late July after responding to a seemingly legitimate job offer at the farm. This case echoes a prior incident in 2025, where authorities uncovered a CJNG training camp in Teuchitlan, Jalisco, leading to significant arrests and the discovery of clothing, luggage, and human remains.
The issue of missing persons in Mexico is staggering, with estimates indicating that 134,000 individuals are currently unaccounted for. Jalisco is particularly impacted, boasting one of the country’s highest rates of missing individuals. In response to this crisis, the Mexican government recently announced the dismantling of over 1,700 social media profiles that were disseminating false job offers aimed at luring young people into criminal activity.
