Microsoft announces new AI model aimed at reducing cybersecurity costs
In a significant advancement for the cybersecurity sector, Microsoft has unveiled a new artificial intelligence model designed to identify security vulnerabilities. This initiative marks the company’s first notable push to enhance its cybersecurity capabilities since appointing Hayete Gallot, formerly of Google, to lead the cybersecurity division.

When integrated with OpenAI’s general-purpose GPT-5.4, MAI-Cyber-1-Flash reportedly achieves this enhanced detection capability at half the operational cost.
At an event held in San Francisco, Mustafa Suleyman, CEO of Microsoft AI, emphasized the company’s commitment to delivering industry-leading performance while maintaining cost efficiency. The generative AI model will be incorporated into a larger initiative, Project Perception, which utilizes AI agents to detect and address security weaknesses. A public preview of this project is set to commence on August 3.
Hayete Gallot’s return to Microsoft as the executive vice president of security has been pivotal in this strategic shift. After a hiatus, she has reinvigorated the team, aiming to leverage AI to streamline operations within security operating centers (SOCs), traditionally staffed by a limited pool of cybersecurity professionals.
