INDIANAPOLIS — The public is urged to cut back on electrical usage across central Indiana and southern Indiana, according to Hoosier Energy.
In a news release Saturday, Jan. 24, a spokesperson for Hoosier Energy said, “High demand for electricity and tight power supplies throughout the Midwest are causing a serious power supply emergency for central/southern Indiana and southeastern Illinois, including REMC/REC customers.”
Therefore, the public is urged to cut back on electricity usage “immediately” until further notice.
“The public’s cooperation will help ease the dangerous strain on the region’s power supply,” a spokesperson for Hoosier Energy said in a news release. “Without swift, voluntary conservation of electricity now, the region could face temporary emergency service interruptions.”
Hoosier Energy suggests doing the following:
- Turn off all unnecessary lights.
- Postpone using major appliances such as dishwashers and clothes dryers.
- Turn your thermostat to 68 degrees or lower for heating.
- Turn down your electric water heater setting.
