Store Hours for July 3 and July 4: What’s Open and Closed

As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary of independence, the upcoming July 4th weekend promises to be a time of gatherings and festivities, marked by fireworks displays, barbecues, and various community events. This significant milestone is anticipated to draw millions of Americans to parks, waterfronts, and backyards across the country.

This year’s July 4 falls on a Saturday, leading some companies to observe the holiday on July 3. However, many retail establishments will remain open to serve customers during this holiday period. It is advisable for shoppers to verify local store hours, as they may differ based on specific locations.

Several national chains, including popular dining and retail establishments, are expected to operate during their regular hours across the July 3-4 timeline. Among those open are Applebee’s, Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Domino’s, Kroger, Target, and Walmart. Departments stores such as Macy’s and discount chains like Dollar General will also welcome customers.

Some retailers will modify their hours for July 4. For example, Best Buy will adjust its schedule to 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., while select locations of IKEA and other stores will have similar time adjustments. The public is encouraged to check with individual stores to confirm hours as some may have special holiday schedules.

In terms of mail services, the United States Postal Service (USPS) will maintain regular operations on July 3, with deliveries continuing as usual. However, all USPS services will be paused on July 4 in observance of the holiday, with operations set to resume on July 6.

Shipping and package delivery services such as FedEx and UPS will also be impacted. UPS locations will be operational on July 3, but the company will suspend services on July 4. On the other hand, FedEx may close some of its locations and will not provide delivery services on either July 3 or 4. Customers are encouraged to consult individual store websites for the latest information regarding hours of operation during the holiday.

Financial institutions, including major banks like JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Wells Fargo, will be open on July 3 but are expected to close in observance of Independence Day on July 4. Similarly, the stock market will be closed on July 3, with trading resuming on July 6 at 9:30 a.m. ET.

As Americans gear up for a festive Independence Day, careful planning can help ensure a smooth and enjoyable holiday experience.
