Tennessee Governor proposes renaming Nashville airport after Dolly Parton

The Nashville International Airport may soon bear the name of country music icon Dolly Parton, pending a proposal presented by Tennessee Governor Bill Lee. This announcement follows the recent passing of Parton, who died at the age of 80 due to cancer, prompting an outpouring of support from fans and officials alike.

In a statement, Governor Lee emphasized that renaming the airport would serve as a fitting tribute to Tennessee’s beloved daughter. Lee further revealed that he has had preliminary discussions with representatives of Parton’s estate regarding the name change.

This proposal aligns with the sentiments expressed in an online petition that has garnered more than 164,000 signatures, with a significant increase in support following her death. The petition has the endorsement of various influential figures, including state Representative Todd Warner and singer-songwriter Sheryl Crow. Originally launched over a year ago, the petition reflects a concerted effort by fans to honor Parton’s contributions to both the music industry and her home state.
