TP-Link set to launch its first Wi-Fi 8 router soon
TP-Link is poised to make a significant impact in the home networking sector with the introduction of its Archer 8 Ultra tri-band router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh system, as announced during the IFA 2026 technology trade fair. Set to open for preorders on September 30, 2026, these devices represent the company’s first foray into hardware designed to leverage the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard, also referred to as IEEE 802.11bn. This standard, although yet to be finalized, aims to enhance connectivity solutions rather than simply boosting speed.
The Archer 8 Ultra boasts an impressive 18 internal antennas, enabling wireless speeds of up to 19Gbps and wired connections of up to 10Gbps. In parallel, the Deco 8 Ultra mesh system aims to deliver wireless speeds reaching 22Gbps while also supporting wired connectivity up to 10Gbps. Designed for extensive coverage, a three-pack of the Deco 8 devices can accommodate areas up to 9,800 square feet and support over 200 connected devices simultaneously.
As anticipation builds for these innovative products, TP-Link has remained relatively tight-lipped regarding pricing. The Archer 8 Ultra is set to be available for preorder in select regions starting at the end of September, with the Deco 8 mesh system expected to be released in the first quarter of 2027. Additional Wi-Fi 8 products, such as range extenders and adapters, are projected to follow in the second quarter of 2027.
Despite the fact that the Wi-Fi 7 standard was only finalized in early 2024, TP-Link aims to remain a step ahead in the competitive market. The anticipated certification for Wi-Fi 8 is not expected until May 2028, allowing TP-Link to capitalize on early adoption trends. This move clearly seeks to allay consumer concerns surrounding the performance of next-generation devices amidst an evolving regulatory landscape. Notably, TP-Link has indicated that its Wi-Fi 8 devices will utilize chipsets from Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek, focusing on US-based hardware and software engineering to ensure reliability and performance.
In an era where demands for seamless connectivity continue to grow, TP-Link’s strategic positioning seems to align with consumer needs, addressing connectivity problems in a proactive manner. As preorders approach, the industry watches closely to see how these developments will influence the landscape of home networking.
