Travelers choose top cruise lines for 2026 in new poll of nearly 800,000 voters

In a recent assessment of the cruise industry, travelers have cast nearly 800,000 votes in the annual Readers’ Choice Awards conducted by a media source, yielding significant insights into the preferences of cruising aficionados. The awards, which categorize cruise lines based on the size of their vessels, highlighted the dominance of larger ships, also known as “megaships.” This category, which encompasses vessels that carry more than 4,000 passengers, revealed Princess Cruises as the clear leader, achieving an impressive score of 92.35.

Princess Cruises’ ascent can be attributed in part to their introduction of two new megaships: the Sun Princess and Star Princess, set to launch in 2024 and 2025 respectively. Each of these ships boasts a maximum capacity of 4,300 passengers, reinforcing Princess’s position at the forefront of the industry. According to the rankings, Royal Caribbean International secured the second place with a score of 86.45, while MSC Cruises followed closely, ranking third.

The data indicates that Princess Cruises operates the nine largest cruise ships around the globe, with some of their vessels accommodating up to 7,600 passengers and stretching nearly 1,200 feet in length. Onboard attractions range from expansive water parks to live entertainment options, catering to a wide variety of interests and preferences among travelers.

For slightly smaller vessels, the awards included a “large ships” category, covering ships that can carry between 2,500 and 3,999 passengers. In this category, Virgin Voyages claimed the top position with a score of 91. Disney Cruise Line and Holland America Line followed closely in second and third place, respectively.

The comprehensive evaluation also assessed medium and small cruise ships, along with river cruise lines, painting a robust picture of the current state of the industry. Significantly, the rankings underscore a trend where many cruise lines offer diverse amenities, including unique attractions such as roller coasters at sea, and engaging recreational options like go-kart racing and virtual-reality experiences.

Overall, this annual report serves as a reflection not only of consumer preferences but also of the evolving landscape of the cruising industry, as companies strive to attract a diverse clientele with innovative offerings that extend beyond traditional sea travel.
