According to a media source, the small skiff, which had run out of fuel, contacted the Coast Guard around 9:30 p.m. seeking assistance. A mere 26 minutes later, the Coast Guard communicated that the skiff was not in active distress, leading them to issue a marine assistance request broadcast on the boat’s behalf. Meanwhile, the Wilderness Legacy, a cruise ship operated by UnCruise Adventures, responded to the stranded vessel, successfully towing it back to safety at Farragut Bay.

Zuckerberg’s nearly 400-foot yacht, the Launchpad, reportedly remained in close proximity to the distressed skiff, a fact that drew considerable attention and critique on social media platforms. A spokesperson for Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, commented that the crew aboard their yacht was operating on a different radio channel than the one on which the assistance request was broadcast. The spokesperson further indicated that by the time the crew was aware of the situation, the Wilderness Legacy had already initiated the rescue.
