Apple plans expensive upgrade for iPhone camera in upcoming roadmap according to Kuo

In a recent analysis shared by a media source, notable industry expert Ming-Chi Kuo provided insights into the evolving camera technology associated with Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro. Kuo predicts that the new variable aperture lens will feature a price point that is approximately 50% higher than Apple’s current premium 7P lens system. To mitigate costs, it is reported that Apple plans to source 40-50% of these new component components from Sunny Optical, a supplier already known for its contributions to Apple’s MacBook Neo camera modules. Despite the cost hikes, Kuo speculates that it may not necessarily lead to an increase in the retail prices for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max models. He indicated that the ultra-wide camera module is expected to transition from the existing flip-chip design to a more advanced chip-on-board (COB) configuration.
