Nintendo Switch 2 System Update 22.5.0 Launches with Full Patch Notes Available

The Nintendo Switch 2 has now completed its inaugural year, marking an important milestone in the gaming console’s lifecycle. Since its launch, the device has consistently received updates aimed at improving user experience and functionality. The most recent firmware update, designated Version 22.5.0, was introduced on June 15, 2026. This update promises to enhance system stability and introduces significant language support improvements.

Among the key features of this latest firmware update is the addition of Dutch and Russian to its “Text to Speech” accessibility features. These language updates aim to provide a more inclusive experience for users who speak these languages. Additionally, the update has made improvements to gameplay-related speech conversions, further enhancing communication during gaming sessions.

Alongside the firmware update, updates to the Nintendo eShop platform have also been integrated. This redesign now reflects the user’s chosen theme color if set to “Basic Dark,” presenting a more integrated aesthetic experience. Furthermore, a new user-verification PIN feature has been implemented to bolster security when accessing the eShop or when utilizing saved payment methods. Another noteworthy enhancement allows users to rewind or advance video content in the eShop or news sections by ten seconds using the ZL and ZR buttons.

This update is particularly significant as it is the first of its kind since April 2026, following a substantial system update released earlier in March. That update had introduced features such as Handheld Mode Boost and new functionalities for Game Chat, receiving generally positive feedback from users.

In addition to firmware updates, Nintendo has also rolled out a new update for the Nintendo Music service, which now features additional tracks from the popular “Mario Kart World” soundtrack. The inclusion of songs from classic titles such as “Super Mario Bros.” is likely to appeal to both long-time fans and newer players alike, with access requiring an active Switch Online subscription.
