iPhone Ultra Set to Mirror iPhone X Experience

Apple is reportedly poised to unveil its highly anticipated foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. However, pre-orders for the foldable device may not commence until a later date, according to insights from a media source.

Industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that challenges in manufacturing are currently hindering the initial production stages of the foldable iPhone, which is expected to be branded as the iPhone Ultra. This delay could push the foldable device’s launch to a date beyond the availability of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup, thereby drawing parallels to the rollout strategy observed with the iPhone X in 2017.

In September of 2017, Apple introduced the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X. While the iPhone 8 and 8 Plus saw pre-orders begin shortly after the announcement, the iPhone X’s pre-orders were not made available until six weeks later. Kuo anticipates a similar timeline for the iPhone Ultra, predicting that pre-orders may start in the fourth quarter of 2026.

The estimated retail price for the foldable iPhone could range between ,299 and ,499 in the United States. Kuo believes the device could attract instant demand, potentially selling out rapidly after pre-order availability, with delivery times lengthening significantly—possibly stretching to four to six weeks or longer.

According to Kuo, Apple’s suppliers are projected to deliver approximately 7 to 8 million foldable iPhones in 2026. In comparison, the iPhone 18 Pro models are anticipated to achieve a shipment figure between 20 and 22 million units combined. This disparity indicates a notable difference in production capabilities and market readiness for the foldable device versus its conventional predecessors.

Should these projections hold true, consumers can expect an unveiling event in September 2026 for the foldable iPhone. However, those interested in purchasing the device may have to wait until at least October to place their orders. As Apple continues to lead innovation in the smartphone industry, the success of the foldable iPhone will undoubtedly be a focal point for both consumers and analysts alike.
