Analogue to re-release upgraded SNES and Genesis consoles
Analogue, a prominent name in the realm of retro gaming, has unveiled new iterations of its highly praised Super Nt and Mega Sg retro consoles, now dubbed the Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus. This announcement reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to merging nostalgic gaming experiences with modern technological enhancements.
Both consoles feature a refined industrial design and are equipped with built-in wireless connectivity for controllers and accessories, elevating user convenience and usability. Using a field-programmable gate array (FPGA) processor, these new models maintain the ability to play classic Nintendo and Sega Genesis cartridges without reliance on traditional emulation methods. This is significant for purists who prefer authentic gameplay reminiscent of the original 16-bit systems.
Notably, while the Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus do not support 4K resolution gameplay, they do offer gameplay in 1080p. Their design includes a USB-C port, allowing users to power the consoles with common cables, akin to those used with smartphones and other modern devices. Additionally, a USB-A port has been integrated for further peripheral support. This brings added versatility to gamers who may wish to enhance their gaming setup with various accessories.
Another key feature of the new consoles is their built-in Bluetooth and low-latency 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. This advancement allows players to connect wireless gamepads freely, eliminating the need for additional dongles or adapters. For those who prefer traditional gaming mechanics, both systems still support wired controllers and enable remote power-up using the primary gaming controller, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
Furthermore, Analogue has taken a step forward in cartridge management by allowing for “hot swapping.” This means players can change game cartridges without fully powering down the console after exiting a game through the menu—a feature designed to improve convenience and efficiency.
The Super Nt Plus and Mega Sg Plus will be available for preorder starting October 19, priced at 9.99, with shipments expected to commence in December 2026. This release not only highlights Analogue’s dedication to preserving gaming history but also their ability to innovate within a nostalgic framework, appealing to both classic gamers and a new generation seeking quality retro gaming experiences.
