‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Trailer Achieves 503 Million Views in One Day, Second Largest Launch in History

The recent release of the trailer for “Avengers: Doomsday” has generated immense excitement, achieving an impressive 503 million views within the first 24 hours of its launch. This astounding figure places it as the second-largest movie trailer debut in cinematic history, following Sony’s anticipated release of “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which garnered 719 million views. Furthermore, it marks Disney’s most-watched trailer ever, surpassing the studio’s prior record set by the teaser for “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which amassed 365 million views, including during its Super Bowl airing.

Promoted by Disney and Marvel Studios, the marketing campaign for “Avengers: Doomsday” began in earnest last December with the release of four teaser trailers leading up to the official trailer launch on July 20. This strategic timing precedes Marvel’s significant presence at the forthcoming Comic-Con, where “Doomsday” is expected to be a focal point of discussion.

Set to premiere on December 18, “Avengers: Doomsday” marks a pivotal moment for the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), being the first major superhero ensemble film since “Avengers: Endgame” in 2019. The trailer provides an exhilarating glimpse into the anticipated narrative, showcasing an epic confrontation between the Avengers and the X-Men. Iconic characters returning for this installment include Chris Evans as Captain America, Chris Hemsworth portraying Thor, and Patrick Stewart reprising his role as Professor X. They will confront the formidable villain, Doctor Doom, played by Robert Downey Jr.

In conjunction with the trailer’s unveiling, Disney initiated pre-sales for movie tickets. Early indicators show that “Doomsday” has already generated .5 million in ticket sales on its first day, with the premium format showings on the evenings of December 17 and 18 already nearing a sell-out status. Theater operators are reportedly responding to this high demand by adding additional screenings for Christmas Day and beyond. While advance ticket sales do not always predict initial weekend box office results, preliminary data suggests that “Doomsday” pre-sales are twice those of “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which opened to a sizable 1 million—taking into account all sales channels.

As the 39th entry in the expansive MCU, “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to debut shortly after “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” positioning it as one of the most anticipated films of the upcoming year.
