The court pointed out that he committed million of his own funds to guarantee the purchase, indicating a level of involvement that precluded his designation as an uninvolved party.

Subsequent communication evidence, including letters Shefler sent to Jolie during the acquisition process, illustrated his active participation in the negotiations, further complicating the matter. The court determined these correspondences revealed Shefler’s engagement in the deal and his attempts to mediate complications arising from Pitt’s objections.
