BTS Takes Artist of the Year at 2026 American Music Awards While Taylor Swift Fails to Win Any Awards

The 2026 American Music Awards took place on May 25 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, showcasing an evening filled with noteworthy performances and wins. This year’s ceremony was characterized by a unique outcome: rather than a singular dominating artist, seven performers shared the spotlight, each winning three awards. Among the noteworthy victors were Bruno Mars, BTS, Cardi B, KATSEYE, Sabrina Carpenter, HUNTR/X, and Sombr.

The night proved particularly challenging for Taylor Swift, who had entered the event with eight nominations but exited without securing a single award. Despite this disappointment, Swift retains her title as the artist with the most American Music Awards in history, totaling an impressive 40 wins.

BTS continued their strong influence in the music industry by clinching the coveted Artist of the Year award, marking their second win in this category since first taking the title in 2021. With two wins each, BTS joins Justin Bieber and One Direction as notable repeat winners in this category. Furthermore, they added accolades for Song of the Summer for “Swim” and Best Male K-Pop Artist, elevating their total AMAs to 14, making them the second most awarded group, trailing only behind the country band Alabama.

Justin Bieber also maintained his momentum by winning Best Male Pop Artist, bringing his AMA total to 19, positioning him as the living male artist with the most AMA accolades, while being tied for the second overall among male artists with the late Kenny Rogers.

In a significant moment for new talent, KATSEYE was honored as the New Artist of the Year, making it the seventh consecutive female act to win in this category. Along with this title, the group also captured Best Music Video and Breakthrough Pop Artist.

Notably, the song “Golden” by HUNTR/X was recognized as Song of the Year amidst a string of successful award show victories for the artist. Sombr achieved recognition with three awards spanning Best Rock/Alternative Song, Best Rock/Alternative Album, and Breakthrough Rock/Alternative Artist.

Other highlights included Bruno Mars, Cardi B, and Sabrina Carpenter all securing three awards each within their respective genres. The event was hosted by Queen Latifah and was broadcasted via CBS and streamed on Paramount+, adding to the show’s extensive reach. With the American Music Awards being a fan-voted event, the nominees reflect key metrics such as streaming activities, sales, radio play, and concert revenues, offering a broad overview of current musical trends.

The evening concluded on a high note with a total of 39 awards presented, underscoring the dynamic landscape of contemporary music.
