Motion Assist rollout now available for Android 17 users

Following a recent announcement, Google has begun the gradual rollout of its new Motion Assist feature for devices running Android 17. This innovative functionality aims to enhance the user experience, particularly for those accessing their devices while in transit.

Motion Assist can be easily found by searching for “motion assist” within the Settings application. Users can navigate through the Settings app in a multiphased manner: accessing Google, locating the All services tab, and then selecting Personal & device safety, which includes this tool alongside other protective features like Advanced Protection and Theft protection. The integration of Motion Assist into Google Play Services underscores Google’s commitment to continually enhancing user safety and convenience across its platform.

Once enabled, Motion Assist offers several options designed to customize the user experience. Notably, it allows users to automatically activate Motion Assist when starting in a moving vehicle, although Google suggests that users also consider adding a Quick Settings Tile for easier manual control. This option enables quick toggling of the feature from any screen, offering efficiency in usage. In addition, system notifications alert users when the feature is active, providing a straightforward means to disable it with just a tap.

One of the unique aspects of Motion Assist is its customizable visual elements. Users can adjust colors—including options like Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue—as well as shapes, which can be modified to Circle, Square, Pentagon, or Diamond. Furthermore, users can manipulate opacity through a simple slider and even implement a randomization feature that changes color and shape every few seconds. These adjustments cater to personal preferences, enhancing the overall likelihood of user engagement.

The primary function of Motion Assist involves displaying dynamic shapes that respond to the device’s motion, purportedly helping to alleviate feelings of motion sickness when the user is traveling. As users experience these motion adjustments, they could find substantial relief while navigating in moving vehicles.

Although Motion Assist is anticipated to provide significant benefits, it is essential to note that the feature is still in the early stages of its rollout. Currently, it appears on only a limited number of devices with version 26.33.32 of Google Play Services, suggesting that users may need patience until the feature becomes widely available.
