Nvidia’s new GPU driver enhances PC gaming performance with innovative optimization features
Nvidia has announced the release of its latest graphics processing unit (GPU) driver, version 621.01, which incorporates Microsoft’s Advanced Shader Delivery technology. This development marks a significant shift in how games are launched and played on compatible hardware. By utilizing cloud computing, the technology aims to streamline the shader compilation process, ultimately expediting game launches while minimizing in-game stuttering that often disrupts the gaming experience.
Advanced Shader Delivery works by offloading the demanding task of shader compilation to Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure. Utilizing DirectX 12 and Windows 11, developers can capture shaders into what is referred to as a State Object Database (SODB). This allows Microsoft’s robust cloud network to precompile shaders for myriad hardware and driver configurations, significantly enhancing the performance for users across different setups.
Notable titles, such as Gears of War: E-Day and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, now support this new technology as long as players access the games through the Xbox PC app. Nvidia emphasizes that this system is “storefront-agnostic,” meaning players will benefit from Advanced Shader Delivery even if they have purchased their games through other platforms like Steam, provided the Xbox PC app is installed on their systems.
With this innovation, players can expect to skip the often inconvenient shader compilation screen that appears during game launches. The near-100 percent cache hit rate associated with this technology effectively eliminates “just-in-time” shader compilation during gameplay. As a result, the system significantly reduces CPU spikes and frame stuttering, fostering a smoother gaming experience in supported titles.
Users interested in experiencing these enhancements can download Nvidia’s latest driver update, version 621.01. Moreover, Advanced Shader Delivery is also compatible with AMD GPUs running Adrenalin version 26.6.1 or higher, as well as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 series with the appropriate driver version.
This technological enhancement underscores Nvidia’s commitment to improving the gaming experience through innovative solutions, setting a new standard for performance across various gaming platforms.
