Quentin Tarantino concludes AFI Fest Q&A by previewing first 17 minutes of ‘Cliff Booth’

Quentin Tarantino captured the attention of audiences during a special screening of his critically acclaimed film, “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” at the AFI Fest in Los Angeles. In an unexpected turn of events on Friday night, the filmmaker unveiled the first 17 minutes of the highly anticipated sequel, “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.” This debut offered the public a first glimpse into the narrative that will follow up Tarantino’s 2019 original film.

The sequel, scripted by Tarantino and directed by David Fincher, sees Brad Pitt reprising his Oscar-winning role as Cliff Booth, a stuntman and confidant to Leonardo DiCaprio’s character Rick Dalton in the original. Booth’s journey continues, now set against the backdrop of 1977, a time when the film industry had shifted significantly since the late 1960s. The storyline is described as navigating the challenges faced by Booth in an evolving Hollywood landscape, where his unique skill set remains invaluable.

“The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth” will be released in theaters on November 25, featuring an Imax presentation before becoming available for streaming on Netflix starting December 23. The casting of the sequel brings together a stellar ensemble, including Elizabeth Debicki, Scott Caan, Carla Gugino, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Peter Weller, and others.

Anticipation for the film has been mounting since its announcement in 2024, particularly due to the collaboration between Pitt and Fincher, which intrigued fans of Tarantino’s original vision. Fincher disclosed that he had to make substantial revisions to the original script, noting it was initially a sprawling 230 pages long. Ultimately, the final cut will run approximately two and a half hours.

During the AFI Fest event, Tarantino also shared insights about another project, his upcoming play “The Popinjay Cavalier.” Slated for opening in London’s West End next March, this marks the director’s transition to theater, with Sacha Baron Cohen set to headline.

As Tarantino continues to explore new frontiers in filmmaking and theater, audiences remain eager to see how his narrative style will evolve in “The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth.”
