Venice Film Festival Announces Winners in Live Update
As the 83rd Venice Film Festival reached its conclusion, the spotlight was firmly placed on the Lido, where May el-Toukhy’s film “Woman Unknown” received the prestigious Golden Lion for Best Film. Similarly, Lee Chang-dong’s “Possible Love” was honored with the Silver Lion Grand Jury Prize, spotlighting the story of a struggling family and their encounters with a wealthy documentarian. The Special Jury Prize went to “NAZA,” a documentary by Israeli directors Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, known for its incisive examination of military practices related to civilian casualties. The film sparked significant discourse regarding its theme and the reality it portrays, earning a standing ovation during its premiere.
The festival also recognized notable individual performances, with John Malkovich receiving the Volpi Cup for Best Actor for his role in “Wild Horse Nine.” In a heartfelt message shared via video, Malkovich acknowledged the inspiration he gained from his collaborators. Mathilde Arcel also earned the Volpi Cup for Best Actress, an emotional triumph in her inaugural lead role.
