Local authorities reported that the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Jeanine John Taele, was taken into custody on Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. Taele drew the attention of law enforcement after being observed photographing and filming the grounds while appearing to monitor security arrangements ahead of Trump’s anticipated appearance at a Republican Party fundraising dinner set for Tuesday.
Deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department discovered a 16-round magazine loaded with ammunition in Taele’s pocket and later retrieved a loaded handgun, with a round in the chamber, from his vehicle parked in the golf course area. Officials have indicated that Taele was previously under investigation by the El Segundo Police Department related to a separate robbery case, adding another layer to his alarming profile.
In a further search on Monday, detectives from the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force executed a warrant at Taele’s home in Downey. They found an illegally modified rifle, a second handgun, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk ammunition, and various radio signal devices. Notably, investigators also located notebooks containing remarks described by authorities as “concerning”.
While the sheriff’s department emphasized that no credible threat to public safety has been detected, Taele remains in custody without bail as prosecutors deliberate charges against him.
