Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Buds 4 Pro to receive new Hearing Aid feature

Samsung has announced significant advancements for its Galaxy Buds series, specifically the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Galaxy Buds 4 Pro, which will soon be equipped with features that enable them to operate as hearing aids. This development comes after receiving regulatory approvals from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety in South Korea, as well as the Food and Drug Administration in the United States. Both features, known as Hearing Check and Hearing Care, are expected to be made available in early 2027.

The Hearing Check function allows users to conduct a self-administered hearing test through the earbuds, which are connected to a compatible Galaxy smartphone. This test plays various tones to assess the user’s hearing ability, producing a personalized audiogram that categorizes hearing results into six distinct levels, ranging from normal to very severe. Based on the outcomes, the system generates tailored amplification recommendations according to the user’s specific hearing profile, utilizing the clinically recognized NAL-NL2 prescription formula. This formula, established by Australia’s National Acoustical Laboratory, ensures that amplification is tailored for frequency bands where the wearer experiences challenges.

Targeted at adults aged 18 and older who may be dealing with mild to moderate hearing loss, the Hearing Care feature enables users to enhance their auditory experience without the need for specialist consultations. This addresses a significant gap as many individuals with mild hearing loss do not often seek formal testing or assistance. Consequently, the integration of this technology into everyday devices like earbuds lowers the barrier to accessibility for hearing assistance, allowing more individuals the opportunity to monitor and potentially improve their hearing.

While Samsung’s rollout plans prove ambitious, there remain discrepancies regarding the timing of the feature’s availability. The expected launch date for the U.S. market is set for the fourth quarter of 2026, although conflicting reports suggest it could extend into early 2027. Notably, the functionality is exclusive to the Galaxy Buds 3 Pro and Buds 4 Pro, excluding older models or standard Buds. Moreover, to fully utilize these features, users must have a compatible Galaxy device operating on One UI 8 or a later version.

As the demand for user-friendly hearing solutions grows, Samsung’s initiative reflects an increasing trend in the gadget industry—merging healthcare capabilities with everyday technology. With the future of personal audio devices evolving to encompass such practical applications, consumers may find themselves better equipped to address their hearing needs seamlessly.
