Xbox to launch ‘Platinum’ completion achievements later this year
Microsoft’s Xbox division recently unveiled a series of updates for the Xbox Series X|S that respond directly to user feedback. A significant new feature allows players to record voice clips and party chat interactions via the Xbox game DVR. This enhancement not only captures a player’s own contributions but also allows for the inclusion of teammates’ comments and reactions during gameplay, provided the feature is enabled.
Since the beginning of 2026, Microsoft has intensified its efforts to engage with the gaming community and incorporate player suggestions into its platform. Recent updates have included the reintroduction of exclusive title releases aimed at bolstering Xbox’s market position, as well as the launch of an Xbox backward compatibility emulator for PC users. Furthermore, the company has rolled back a previous price increase for the Xbox Game Pass subscription service that had provoked dissatisfaction among subscribers.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently stated that additional features, specifically “Platinum”-style achievement systems akin to those found on PlayStation, are in development and will be introduced later this year. This announcement addresses a long-standing request from players who seek a tangible reward for attaining 100% completion in their games, which typically offer a total of 1000 gamer points per title, but do not currently recognize full achievement completion.
The potential integration of a Platinum achievement is expected to enhance user engagement, as players have expressed a desire for recognition similar to that offered by competitor platforms. While details remain sparse, speculation suggests that this new achievement system might align with existing frameworks, possibly tying completion recognition to the base gamer score each game offers. However, challenges remain, given that many games frequently receive additional achievements post-launch, potentially complicating the definition of what constitutes 100% completion.
The gaming community is closely watching these developments, hoping that Xbox will finalize and reveal the specifics of the new achievement system, promising to elevate their gaming experiences significantly.
