Ukrop’s recalls nearly 23,000 pounds of baked spaghetti and chicken cobbler due to metal sliver contamination

In a significant food safety alert, nearly 23,000 pounds of Ukrop’s Homestyle Foods baked spaghetti and chicken cobbler products are currently subject to a recall due to concerns regarding potential contamination with metal slivers, as reported by a media source. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) indicated that the affected products were distributed in Virginia, North Carolina, and West Virginia. They were sold in various formats, including bulk pans for large-scale catering and single-serving trays, both in stores and online.

The recall was triggered by a consumer complaint highlighting the discovery of metal debris in one of the fully cooked products. To date, no injuries associated with the contaminated items have been reported. However, the FSIS has urged consumers to consult healthcare providers if they have any concerns about potential harm.

The scope of the recall encompasses baked spaghetti and chicken cobbler varieties manufactured between July 1 and July 29, 2026. Specifically, it includes 62.4-ounce bulk pans and 4.8-ounce single-serving trays of Ukrop’s Baked Spaghetti, in addition to 48-ounce family-size pans and 11.6-ounce single-serving trays of Ukrop’s Chicken Cobbler. All recalled products are marked with “best by” dates ranging from July 8 through August 5, 2026.

Consumers who have purchased these items are advised to discard them or return them to their place of purchase for a full refund. This incident underscores ongoing challenges in food safety that can arise, even in established brands. Previous recalls, such as the one involving Rich Products Corp.’s Farm Rich Pizza Cheese Crunchers earlier this year, have also highlighted similar issues of metal contamination, affecting over 160,000 pounds of products across 21 states.

As the food industry continues to grapple with such safety concerns, ongoing vigilance and proactive responses from manufacturers, along with regulatory oversight, remain critical in ensuring consumer safety in the marketplace.
